Distance vs. Accuracy 2

I found this a magazine I am subscribed to called 'Golf Digest' which is a monthly magazine that publishes the newest equipment, and also tips to improve ones golf game, kind of like my blog. So I am writing my paper about Accuracy being more important than distance, and it just so happens that I found an article on the comparison of distance vs. accuracy. PLEASE READ THIS TO THE RIGHT!

Although statistically in the pros distance and accuracy produce similar results, distance can cause off target shot, as the article said "cause you misses to veer farther off line". Obviously, long and straight is ideal, and debatably long and a little off target is better than straight and on target. Being in the rough is OK, in the fairway is better and longer is better than shorter. However, when your drives get to a point where they aren't even hitting the rough, and they are going into the woods/out of bounds/water hazards, then that should be a signal to stop aiming for distance and hit it short and accurate.

  1. If pros hit the ball as long and as straight as they possibly could, would they over hit the greens? Is there a minimum distance you really need to be able to hit in order to be a pro? Can the average player hit it long enough to do OK but not accurately enough to be a pro? In other words, is accuracy what distinguishes pros for average players, or is it distance, too?

  2. both really. When people go to watch pros at the driving range, people are WOWed by the distance of pros, but i focus on their accuracy and thats what separates good players from great players.

  3. So accuracy plays a bigger role then being able to hit the ball as far as you can, right?

  4. I think that it is very important to remember, getting closer to the hole is still good, but getting an accurate shot onto the fairway to set up a great shot for next time is usually much smarter.

  5. but if you always hit it short and play it safe wouldnt it just take you longer to get to the green instead of hitting it really close to the green and a little off mark where you can just like chip it onto the green
